Isogeometrical Analysis based Shape Optimization

Shape optimization plays an important role in the development of new products like electrical machines, cars, aircrafts, ships etc. The geometrical description of these products is often made by CAD systems which use B-Splines, NURBS, etc for the geometrical representation. Isogeometric Analysis (IgA) uses the same functions as basis functions for the simulations based on Partial Differential Equations (PDE).
In this project, we will use IgA technology for both simulation and shape optimization, i.e., for solving the underlying PDE, for the computation of the shape derivatives as well as for the optimization of the geometry by moving the control points. The implementation of the IgA based shape optimization technology will be done in the IgA library GISMO.
