Towards an Arabic Semantic Search: An Ontology-Based Annotation Approach for Document Retrieval

In this talk we present our first insights to develop a semantic-based approach for Arabic documents retrieval. We build ontology for the Arabic domain "Current Internet Issues" and we collect related documents from the Internet. We use ontology to guide the process of adding annotations to documents, i.e., attaching names, attributes, comments, descriptions, etc. to the paragraphs of a document. Obtained results in terms of document relevancy is encouraging but still needs further investigation to enhance the annotation process and apply it to documents of larger domains.
